Car Wash

The Car Wash cenote, also known as Aktun Ha, was previously used to wash taxis. This cenote is located 8 km outside of Tulum on the road to Coba. With the water level only a few inches below ground level, divers find easy entry into the water. For cave divers it is possible to dive upstream and downstream.

The upstream section with its large chestnut-colored columns is the most popular route. You will enter the water through the roots and fallen trees that, like any good fairy, take you to a strange and different world. Looking towards the entrance, it seems that we are below the clouds thanks to a small algae that lives near the surface.

The light falling through the roots creates an amazing light show and the great room behind these roots is beautifully decorated. Cave divers can find many rooms along the way. Ask your guide to show you the Room of Tears or Adriana's Room among others.
